Shri R K Pachnanda IPS (West Bengal-1983)

Shri R K Pachnanda is a 1983 batch Indian Police Service Officer of the West Bengal Cadre.

A Bachelor of Arts (Economics Honours) from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi with a First Division, Shri Pachnanda did LLB from Punjab University, Chandigarh, securing the Gold Medal for standing FIRST in Law.

Prior to his appointment as DG ITBP, Shri Pachnanda has served in various capacities as DCP South (Kolkata Police), SP CBI, Assistant Director SPG, IG BSF,ADG CISF, ADG(Operations) CRPF, Commissioner of Police, Kolkata and DG NDRF. He was awarded the Indian Police Medal for Meritorious Service. He has been decorated with Indian Police Medal for Distinguished Service in 2007. He has been awarded the DG’s Commendation Disc and Roll several times.

He has authored a book ‘Terrorism and Response to Terrorist Threat’ in 2001 which was a best seller.

Shri Pachnanda has the honour of receiving 7 trophies including the IPS Association ‘Sword of Honour' at the National Police Academy Hyderabad in 1984. He is a good player of Squash (Ranked India Junior No.3 in 1977) and tennis. He won trophies in shooting championships. Painting is his hobby.

Shri Pachnanda received commendations for outstanding work from the Prime Minister of India, Minister of State for Personnel and Pensions, Cabinet Secretary and Director CBI.
