Aim

Aim of this instruction is to give a general information about RTC Sivagangai for attending any course.

Introduction

Recruit Training Centre, Sivagangai started functioning at present location in the month of March 2011. The location is near Illupaikudi village which is 4 KM away from State Highway NH-230 i.e. Madurai – Sivagangai road. The centre is 34 Kms away from Madurai and 19 Kms short of Sivagangai Town. While coming from Madurai in Sivagangai Road one has to take a left turn 18 Kms short of Sivagangai at PRIST University Junction to reach the centre after travelling 03 Kms from that junction. Sufficient indications boards have already been placed enroute to guide first time visitors.

Mission Status

The mission of RTC Sivagangai is to impart quality training to new entrants and in-service personnel for moulding them as professionally sound, physically & mentally robust and confident combatant members of Indo Tibetan Border Police Force to execute their task with commitment and due respect to Human Rights values.

           Type of Training

            (a)  Basic Training for GD Constable.

            (b)  Basic Training other than GD Cadre.

             (c)  Any other basic or in-services courses on need basis.

Basic Training

44 weeks Basic Training is imparted to the newly recruited constables GD earmarked from different formations of ITBP. The Basic Training is organised as per curriculum circulated by Directorate General ITBP which includes intensive physical training, Unarmed combat, Drill, Weapon training, Map reading, Field craft, Battle craft, Tactics, Counter insurgency operations, Small arms firing, Rock climbing, Swimming, Outdoor exercises etc. After completion of 44 weeks Basic training a Passing Out Parade will be conducted in which they will be attested as trained soldiers and disciplined members of the force.

           Objectives of Basic Training

            (a)  To achieve required standard of physical fitness and endurance.

            (b)  To impart required of soldierly skills.

             (c)  To develop team spirit.

             (c)  Any other basic or in-services courses on need basis.

             (d)   To bring altitudinal change matching for uniform service.

             (e)  To install soldierly habits and leadership qualities.

             (f)  To transform new entrant to hard core professional soldiers.

             (g)  To develop pride in uniform.

OBJECTIVES OF IN-SERVICE COURSES

            (a)   It varies from course to course.

            (b)  It is to professionally upgrade serving personnel for specific assignments.

The Nominal roll of the trainee should be forwarded by the unit to reach this RTC atleast 15 days prior to commencement of the training. The Nominal Roll should be as follows:-

Documents to be Brought by Trainees

Every trainee must be in possession of the following documents which should be produced on arrival at this RTC.

            (i)  Identity Card

            (ii)  Movement Order

            (iii)   Medical Certificate with date completion of TAB, Cholera, Tetanus, Small Pox Vaccination and Medical History Book.

            (iv)   Name

            (v)   Nomination for the training (if already not sent by post)

Study Material, Books, Pamphlets & Precis

Relevant books/pamphlets/ precis will be issued to all trainees from précis cell and Library for the duration of course. The trainees are expected to bring/buy their own stationary.

Family Permission

No trainee will be allowed family permission during the course.

How to Reach at Recruit Training Centre, Sivagangai

(a)        By Road:- The nearest Rail head for RTC Sivagangai is Madurai is about 34 Kms and Sivagangai is about 19 Kms. The State Transport Buses plying for Recruit Training Centre, Sivagangai are mainly from I.S.B.T locally named as Matutawani Bus Stand, which also connects Madurai with Chennai. One direct State Transport Bus 87 – A plying for Arasanoor [01 KM away from RTC Campus] from Periyar Bus Stand [ Nearby Railway Station Madurai ].

(b)        By Air:- Recruit Training Centre, Sivagangai is connected by Air with nearest Airport Madurai, which is about 45 KM from this Centre. The services of Air India and other Private Airlines can be taken from Madurai Airport to other parts of India.

(c)        By Rail:- The main Rail head for Recruit Training Centre, Sivagangai is Madurai which is about 34 KM from here. The Govt. vehicles are detailed to bring trainees from Railway Station, Bus Stand airport on receipt of prior information before commencement of basic training

Climate

            (i)   March to September: Weather at the place is hot.

            (ii)  September to November: Rainy season starts.

            (iii)   December to February: Slight cold in morning but no special clothing needed.

(g)        Food and Messing:- A separate Mess for Officers, SO’s, OR’s and recruits are available at RTC SVG. The recruits must deposit a sum Rs. 5,000/- and for other in-service courses Rs. 3,000/- to be deposited as mess advance. Mess Menu is prepared keeping in view the requirement of their calories.

(h)        Accommodation:- Being a newly established RTC presently the trainees will be provided tentage accommodation.

(i)        Arms and Ammunition:- Unless specifically asked, Arms/Ammunition need not be brought. This RTC will provide required Arms and ammunition.

(j)        Pay and Allowances:- It is the responsibility of concerned units to send trainees pay and allowances through special messenger or transfer it to bank accounts. (k)        Medical Fitness:- This Recruit and in-service Training requires very high standard of physical fitness. Hence SHAPE- 1 trainees who can undergo stress and strain of respective course only be sent.

(l)        Leave:- No leave will be granted to any trainees during the training period except on extreme compassionate grounds. However, as per training manual Vol-V, Para- 64, Head of the training institution will be competent to grant casual leave to a trainee up to 6 days in one block on medical/ extreme compassionate ground provided a request for such leave has been preferred only by the trainee himself. However, if trainees remain away from training programme beyond certain period he/she will be relegated.

(m)        Clothing: - The recruits/trainees are required to bring normal and E.I clothing with them to undergo their basic training at this RTC. However for in-service courses only normal clothing and equipments required.

(n)        Discipline: - Strict discipline inside as well as outside the campus is expected from the trainees. If any violation it will be dealt severely under ITBP Act & Rules. No permission shall be granted to visit Madurai or Sivagangai on any working days. However in-service recruits completed 06 months training will be allowed to visit local township with due permission one weekend/holidays as per RTC policy on this subject.

(o)        Medical Support:- A 10 bedded hospital functioning inside in campus. Besides that Sivagangai and Madurai got Medical Colleges.
